Carl Nix has spent his life pursuing golf and tennis. “Back when I was in high school, it cost 75 cents a round to play golf at Wheeling Park. I would play with a couple of buddies four to five times a week.” After serving in the Air Force he returned to the area and found that all his buddies had taken up tennis, so Carl did too.
Carl spent the first part of his professional life teaching, mostly in the St. Clairsville school district. His love of sports, playing tennis tournaments like the WV Open at Oglebay, came in handy when coaching students. After 14 years of teaching and coaching, Carl entered the real estate business in 1990. Since his firm was sponsoring golf scrambles, Carl returned to the game of golf and continues to enjoy playing at Speidel and Crispin.
Realizing the important role sports has played throughout his life, Carl decided to fund youth tennis and golf activities at Oglebay and Wheeling Park with an IRA Charitable Rollover. Carl has also included the Foundation in his estate to support the lifetime sports that have shaped his life.
