Access to Parks

Access to the Parks provides scholarships to families based on financial need. This program supports about 1,500 children and an accompanying adult each year for year-round recreational activities at Oglebay and Wheeling Parks. On average, these scholarships provide 15,000 annual park visits.

The total cost of this program is roughly $200,000 a year – or the equivalent of $133.34 per scholarship.

This scholarship program fulfills a critical mission of the Oglebay Foundation and the Wheeling Park Commission, ensuring everyone has the ability to use the park regardless of their financial circumstances. All children should know what it’s like to swim, play, learn, and enjoy the one thing that makes Wheeling and the Ohio Valley an amazing place to live – our parks.
